To improve soil health we need to first be able to identify degraded pieces of land, understand the cause of that degradation, and decide what practices should be adopted to manage the situation. There are various strategies that can be adopted to build soil health, but not all practices will give the same results – sometimes there are side effects to a treatment that we must consider. Ultimately, we want to promote good management practices that address the needs of the soil, while providing agronomic, economic and environmental benefits to the producer and the public.
