WEDNESDAY, February 12, 2025 – More needs to be considered than just determining that sulphur is required for field crops. Sulphur fertilizer forms differ in how they become available over the growing season and choosing the right source, and even placement, can be critical to ensure the fertilizer that is applied will be available for crops that the sulphur is applied. Recent work in Minnesota evaluated multiple sources of sulphur fertilizers to see how quickly products containing elemental sulphur would become available in different soils. Sources included products where finely ground elemental sulphur is co-granulated with phosphate or potash fertilizer sources. Results from this work will be discussed identifying key issues related to sulphur availability and how practices might vary based on the type of soil where the sulphur fertilizer was applied.
