Case Study on Corporate Tax Planning for Farmers and Pitfalls
Session focus is tax planning for a family owned and operated farming business. The discussion will include initial acquisition of farms and farmland either personally or via a corporation, the pitfall and tax risk using corporate funds for personal benefits or unintentional personal benefits.
The session will discuss utilizing tax advantages during the operation of the farm utilizing the lifetime capital gains exemption selling farmland or assets such as dairy quota to the operating farm. Lastly, succession planning for a farm corporation with the case study sample of parents transferring control to a single child. Sample walkthrough including an estate freeze, unanimous shareholder agreement and wills protecting the cash flow of the farming business and protecting the parents’ retirement plan.
