John Heard is the senior Soil Fertility Extension Specialist for Manitoba Agriculture, long enough to see environmental focuses shift from leached nitrate-N, then runoff P and now the greenhouse gas N2O as the priority targets. John is a CCA, member of the Manitoba Soil Science Society and chair of the MB Soil Fertility Advisory committee. His unusual obsession is safaris of different states and provinces to capture their officially designated soils.
