Edgar Hammermeister is a Professional Agrologist and has been providing crop planning services as an independent consultant since 1998. Edgar is a franchise owner of Western Ag Professional Agronomy and is the Manager of Agronomy services, serving the regions of South East Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In that capacity, Edgar provides technical, agronomic and promotional support to the independent agronomists affiliated with Western Ag. Western Ag’s team of agronomists use a computer model, the PRS CropCaster, as a decision support tool to guide farmers in crop selection and nutrition planning. Although the focus is on the front end of the production cycle, discussion around crop options, rotation and crop protection are had to make the most of the opportunities available.
What Edgar enjoys most about providing the Western Ag service is the “talking agronomy” with a wide diversity of farmers. The discussions range from the fundamentals of crop rotation to considerations for variable rate fertilization.
Along with managing the Western Ag services, Edgar operates a 3000 ac farm in the Alameda area. Crops grown include typical cereals including winter wheat, canola, flax, peas/lentils and canary seed from time to time. Edgar has been married for 29 years to Marilyn and they have two sons, Logan and Riley.
